What is Tamoxifen?

Tamoxifen is a drug classified under the Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERMS). It is popularly known as Nolvadex and acts by selectively antagonizing the estrogen effect in some tissues like the breast tissue. Therefore, the use of SERMS in the treatment of breast cancer and Post Cycle Therapy in bodybuilders is to prevent enlargement of the breast tissue. SERMS in PCT therapy acts by stimulating the production of luteinizing hormone from the pituitary gland, which in turn stimulates the production of testosterone. The testosterone produced counteracts the low levels of testosterone brought about by the use of anabolic steroids in bodybuilders.
